As a 501(c)3 organization, the Monroe Historical Society is required to receive a large portion of its budget from donations. Monetary donations, as well as paying for more glamorous capital projects, help fund such mundane things as insurance, taxes, and utilities. Donations of time keep the society operating, donations of historic items enrich our holdings, and donations of useful items mean we have to spend less of our resources. We also accept donations of items we can sell to raise money.

Historic items we can accept : Items must be relevant to the history of the Monroe area.

Why you should donate: The Monroe Historical Society is the only organization specifically working to preserve and share the history of the Monroe, Washington, area. Its museum is the repository of hundreds of local photographs, oral histories, publications, and other items. Without this treasure there would little ability for people to attend a local history program, to access a repository of historic photos, maps, and other items, to research a family member, or to find information on the old house they just bought, just to name a few benefits.

Capital projects: Some of our larger fundraisers help pay for capital improvements to Old City Hall, where our museum is located. These have included a new roof (photo below), new flashing and gutters, brickwork, a new heating system, electrical upgrades, painting, and repair of the front overhang. We refinished the floor in the old library, painted and replaced blinds and windows.  Upcoming projects include: improved lighting, plumbing, stain for the back door and eventually an awning.
