Mainroad Donkey Engine near Monroe in 1904 Mainroad donkey engine on bank of Snoqualmie River at Hartley’s Camp near Monroe in 1904. It carried 18,500 feet of steel wire cable. Roland Hartley of Everett was later Washington State Governor from 1924 to 1932. The logs from this site were sent down the river to the Clark-Nickerson Mill in Everett, which was managed by Hartley’s father-in-law, David Clough.
