Replacing the Covered Milwaukee Railroad Trestle in 1969
Monroe Historical Society photo #1405
The Milwaukee Road covered railroad trestle across the Skykomish River at Buck Island on the east side of Monroe was
the longest covered railroad bridge in existence at 450 feet and the longest covered bridge in the west until it was replaced in 1969.
The replacment process began on the north (Buck Island) side and here you can see the crane at work in the center background.
