RR Bridge Damaged by High Water

Railroad Bridge Damaged by High Water c1911
Monroe Historical Society photo #1400

Although identification is uncertain, this is probably the first Milwaukee Road Railroad Bridge across the Skykomish River just east of Monroe. Otherwise it would by the Cherry Valley Railroad Bridge, which crossed at Ann Street. River flooding proved a recurring challenge to the railroads in the area and ultimately caused the Milwaukee Road to abandon its branch line between Monroe and Everett and move its trestle and bridge across the Skykomish River about 200 feet downstream so as to merge with the Grant Northern Mainline at Monroe in 1939.
