Monroe General Hospital c1950
Monroe Historical Society photo #879

This was the stucco building that was constructed and opened in 1925 on the grounds of the The Snohomish County Poor Farm. It was also called the Snohomish County Farm and Hospital, and Valley View Hospital at different times. In 1960 it became Valley General Hospital when Snohomish County Public Hospital District No. 1 was created. The Poor Farm was established in Monroe in 1893 at what is now the southeast corner of US 2 and 197th Ave. SE. In 1912, the county bought an additional 70 acres on the north side from Wagner and Wilson in a plan to make the institution self-sustaining through agricultural production. This land is now the Evergreen State Fairgrounds while Poor Farm site became the home of Valley General Hospital. This building was demolished in 1990.
