Monroe Union High School in 1911 Taken looking northeast from Kelsey Street, this photo shows Monroe Union High School near completion. The three-story building had classrooms on all floors in the front. The back wing, marked by the two-story windows, housed the gymnasium and assembly room. The building was condemned after the spring 1965 earthquake and torn down that summer. A new high school building was erected on the same site at the southeast corner of Hill and Kelsey Streets and opened in the fall of 1967. It is now Monroe Middle School.
