The heaviest snowfall on record for the Northwest fell in late January and early February 1916. Almost four weeks of freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall created accumulations of four to six feet, which brought most business and community activities to a standstill. Snow was piled even higher in the center of the street because of the shoveling of snow off of walks and roofs.
