Our March 15, 2007 Annual Meeting celebrated the life of Fred Rosenzweig and his gift of $100,000, which was used to pay off
our mortgage on the Old City Hall building.
Fred celebrated March 17 each year by doing something special for someone else as it was on that day in 1945 that he completed his 35th flying mission over
Germany as a B-17 pilot. Several years ago on that date, Fred paid off our second mortgage of over $7,000. Fred passed away a year ago in June 2005 and under
the terms of his will left the Society $100,000 specifically to pay off the mortgage. It was Fred’s desire to see Old City Hall renovated and maintained as the
historical center of Monroe. It is a great loss for us all and a bronze plaque will be mounted on Old City Hall to mark the donation.
We had a great turnout for our annual potluck, election of officers and recognition of the volunteers for the year . It is rewarding to see the accomplishments
our organization has done for the year and to recognize the people who have finished the projects. We have a lot to be proud of for 2005!
The Trustees created “The Presidents’s Award” for the outstanding volunteer of the year. We honored Ruth Rehm, this year for her many hours of faithful
service on Wednesdays at the Museum. Other people honored were Chris Bee, who created an Educational History Kit for school teachers; Butch and
Marg Olson, and their son Mike, who put a new back porch roof on the Shannahan Cabin and rewired the inside; Ardelle Kern and Butch Ohlsen, who
researched the school superintendents from 1908 to the present for both the Society and the Schools; and Joan Snow for her great organization of the
June 2005 Dairy Month program.
