Potluck dinner will be followed by a follow-up of the history of Theaters in Monroe and a couple of short films that may have just been shown in them. Watch for our Press Release with more details to be coming out soon. August 27 through September 7, 2009: Shannahan Cabin exhibit. Our Monroe Museum will be closed during the fair but please stop into the Shannahan Cabin and visit our display. This year we will have the history of movie theaters in Monroe and a bit about live theater as well. The children will be able to see how washing day effected the lives of the pioneer women and children and perhaps even give it a try if they are there when demonstrations are being done. Both our beautiful quilts will be on display with tickets readily available and our wonderful staff of volunteers on hand to visit and share the history of Monroe to anyone with time to visit. August 14, 15, 16, 2009: Threshing Bee: The Monroe Historical Society will have a booth at the annual Threshing Bee. Stop by and brows our gift items that will be on sale or purchase your tickets for our quilt raffle. Information will also be available on the market, other local places of interest and the Historical Society. June 18, 2009 Strawberry Social and Mining Presentation: Local mining historians and authors Daryl Jacobson and Phil Woodhouse will present the history of mining in the Sultan Basin area at the Monroe Historical Society's June meeting and annual Strawberry Social Thursday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. Jacobson, Woodhouse and researchers Vic Pisoni and Greg Cady are currently writing the next three books in the series. They are members of Northwest Underground Exploration, founded in 1988 to research, interpret and preserve the history of mining in the Free strawberry shortcake will be served at June

Society will again be hosting the weekly Farmers Market. From
Noon until 7 each Tuesday. the market will be open in the parking lot
behind Old City Hall, 200 block of E. Main Street, Monroe,

Creek Rest stop. All donations of cookies and other baked goods

19, 2009 Annual Meeting of
Monroe Historical Society; The annual meeting will be held
at Tualco Grange on Thursday March 19th. The meeting will be
kicked off with a potluck and will include a program to celebrate March
as National Women's History Month. Stories of Pioneer women form
our area will be shared as well as a presentation by Monroe High School
Students of their project to continue Snohomish County's Women's Legacy
Project.
Annual president's award will be presented as well as an overview of 2008 and the election of officers and trustees. Celebrate 100 years of
Old City Hall with two special events; Saturday December 6, 2008 open house at
Old City Hall from 11 am to 3 pm and Tuesday December 16, 2008 at the
Tualco Grange Hall.

18, 2008 / Quarterly Meeting and presentation;
Join us at the Tualco Grange for wonderful, seasonal, home made pies
and presentation by logging historian and author Eric Erickson. Erickson is the author of the book “Lumber
and Shingle Mill Index Snohomish County 1853-2008 and
will provide and interactive presentation on Snohomish County logging
and sawmill history.
August 8, 9, 10, 2008: The
20th Annual Antique Tractor Show and Threshing Bee. Open daily
from 9 am to 5 pm. The Monroe Historical Society will have it's
annual booth open with the new Quilt on display and tickets available
for sale along with an assortment of other historical publications and
gift items.
August 21st through September 1st, 2008: Evergreen State Fair - The Monroe Historical Society will again be presenting a display and staffing the Shannahan Cabin for the full run of the fair. Our exhibit this year will be a portion of the larger Depression Era exhibit being staged at the Museum. Stop by, visit with our docents and tour the exhibit.
