Local mining historians and authors Daryl Jacobson and Phil Woodhouse will present the history of mining in the Sultan Basin area at the Monroe Historical Society's June meeting and annual Strawberry Social Thursday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m.

History buffs and valley residents won’t want to miss the stories of the men who wrested copper from the Kromona and silver from the 45 Mines in Sultan and those who are still prospecting today in the western Cascade Mountains. The Kromona mine operated from 1916 to 1968 so local residents may have their own memories to share at the meeting. Jacobson promises never-before-released information about the mines in the presentation. Copies of the three-volume series “Discovering Washington’s Historic Mines” will be on sale for a discount at the event.
