2008 School Tours

2008 tour group

Seven 4th and 5th grade classes from Frank Wagner Elementary toured the Monroe Historical Society Museum in May 2008 as part of a pilot project to connect Monroe school children with their local history.  Approximately 200 Children, 7 teachers and 21 chaperones participated in the program which included a walking tour of Main street, a study of local Indians that first inhabited this area and a hands on activities session  giving the students a chance to participate in what it was like to work, go to school and play at the turn of the century.   The tours were designed to complement the Washington State history curriculum for fourth grade.  Museum Director Chris Bee hopes to make the tours a permanent part of our Museum’s offerings by opening the doors to all fourth grades in the district in the years to come.

Pat Gibson  traveled all the way from Redding, Ca. to assist with our School Tours.  When she learned of the project she not only offered to assist but made and donated much of the clothing for the children to wear enabling them to dress the part as they participated in turn of the century activities.  Our immense and heartfelt thanks  to Pat and all of our volunteers who assisted as docents during the tours.   Other volunteers who assisted were Chris Bee, Tami Beaumont, Mary and Jerald Stackpole, Bill Wojchiechowski, Joe Williams, Jenny Coan, Gary Brooks, and Jeannie Elledge.  Many thanks to you one and all.
