The Monroe Historical Society has a variety of historic articles, books and photo items for sale in our gift shop.  A brief explanation of each is provided below.   Please feel free to stop in our museum to purchase any of these items or if you would like to place a mail order, you may do so by sending an email to the Webmaster at this site.  Postage will be added to each purchase based on the weight of the total items purchased.   Scroll down to see items

Publications


Frye Frye Lettuce Farm (1925-1940):  $8.00

An 8 1/2 x 11 booklet with 23 pages chronicling the precursor Robinson Lettuce Farn and its failure, and Charles H Frye's vast undertaing at land clearing and draining, growing, harvesting, packing, and shipping lettuce and other crops from Monroe to east coast markets.  Struggling thru the Depression and facing foreclosure, Frye worked to the very end.  The Frye Art Museum in Seattle has his legacy.  Researched and written by Bill Wojciechowski.

FairHistory Snomomish County Fairs (1874-2008): $5.00

This 8 1/2 x 11 booklet is 15 pages covering the earliest agricultural exhibits and fairs in Snohomish and Everett as well as the first Monroe Fair held in 1903;  Also covered are the Community Fairs of 1937 - 1939; the Cavalcade of the Valleys of 1941, 1944, and 1945; The Snohomish County Fairs of 1946-1948; and the Evergreen State Fair 1949-2008.   This book contains fair announcements from the Monroe Monitor as well as copies of early Fair Posters Researched and written by Bill Wojciechowski.

This 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 Booklet was developed to provide a short, easy reading but factual history of the places, people, and events that formed a part of Monroe.  Typical topics cover the mayors, early doctors and dentists, the hospitals, railroads, saw and shingle mills, pioneer schools, etc

Localnext10 Local History Booklet The next 10 stories: $12.00

A continuation of the Local History Series, covers the crossing of Stevens Pass by rail, military forts on the Snoqualmie,  keeping time, Monroe baseball, early Monroe hotels, the Monroe Canning Company, the Thedinga Hardware Store, Skykomish river bridges, Monroe geology, and Monroe creameries.  Researched and written by Bill Wojciechowski.

MonroePioneers Local History Booklet Monroe Area Pioneers, Old Timers, Other Noted Citizens (1860-1900): $12.00

53 pages briefly covers settlements inthe Pacific Northwest, Puget Sound, and the Snohomish and Monroe areas.  Contains brief bios of 81 early noted Monroe residents.  Researched and written by Bill Wojciechowski.


CemetaryBook  Monroe Cemeteries: $25.00

An 8 1/2 x 11 book  including a brief history of local cemeteries, photos, maps, and a complete listing of all known burials, totaling over 6,000 as of the date of publication. Researched and written by Dexter Taylor.

An 8 1/2 x 11 book written by Nellie Robertson after receiving so many request for more.  Her first book was such a success readers were successful at encouraging here to continue and bring us more.   Researched and written by Nellie Robertson.

SnoCoIllustrated Snohomish County Illustrated History: $49.95

An 8 1/2 x 11 Hard cover book written by David Cameron, Charles P LeWarne, M. Annan May, Jack C. O'Donnell and Lawrence E. O'Donnell.  Over 400 pages of hard cover book providing the history of Snohomish County, it's beginnings and it's inhabitants 1849 - 2004.

Salemwoods Salem Woods School, Symbol of Community Survival: $10.00

A History of Monroe, and particularly, the Wood's Creek district.  The program was written and produced by Nancy Moore Rockafellar with narrations by Emil Anderson, Mildred Brame, Nels Carlson, Paul Graden and Paul Wagner.  Ron Carraher was the design and photography consultant and Patrick McClatchy was the historical consultant.  Original publication was a slide show in 1981, since converted to VHS Video and DVD format by the Monroe Historical Society thanks to a generous grant from the Tualco Homemakers Club.
